An art degree will provide you with a foundation for understanding the creative process and producing works of art. From digital and print graphic design, drawing and painting, digital and analog photography, sculpture and ceramics, you will follow your creative curiosity and work closely with faculty to learn about materials and techniques in a hands-on classroom environment.

Majoring in art at Redlands gives you the tools to become a creative professional, build a portfolio, create your CV, write artist statements, and deliver presentations. Each year, you will have the opportunity to apply for a grant to support an art and design internship through the department.

What you'll learn
You will learn how to effectively communicate your story and capture an audiences emotions through visual art.
You will learn how to conceive, develop, and construct professional level works of art.
You will learn how to compose an artists portfolio that will consist of effective professional material that is practical in the art world. These materials may include an artist statement, digital portfolio, or curriculum vitae.
You will learn to understand the relationships between the formal elements of a work of art and its conceptual basis.

As a visual artist, you will create original artworks in various mediums, expressing ideas and emotions through visual form.
As an art director, you will guide the visual aspects of creative projects, from advertising to film, ensuring a cohesive artistic vision.
As a gallery curator you will select and organize exhibitions of artworks, promote artists, and engage the public with visual art.
As an art instructor you will teach students the techniques and concepts of studio art, fostering their creative development.
